Congratulations to all 13 Northbrook Junior High musicians who auditioned for the ILMEA District 7 Honor Band on Sept. 21. This year NBJH hosted the auditions for around 400 students from 65 schools to seat the 120-member District 7 Junior Band, and two District 7 Junior Jazz Bands.

Preparing to audition for this festival is a great learning experience, and acceptance is a true achievement. This year three NBJH students were selected for the Junior Band: Caroline Gross (8th grade, clarinet) was selected for the second year, as well as Jeehyung Yoo, (8th grade, trumpet) and Anna Huelke (8th grade, flute). Additionally, Andrew Goldshteyn (7th grade, saxophone) was selected for the Junior Jazz Bands.

The ILMEA District 7 Junior Band rehearses and performs together ONCE, all on the same day. On Saturday, November 2, selected students will meet at Maine West High School to work with a special guest conductor. The concert is held at 2 p.m. The ILMEA Junior Jazz Bands also rehearse for one day only; the Jazz Festival is combined with the high school level ensembles. The District 7 Jazz Festival is on Saturday, November 23 at Lake Zurich High School.

All students who audition devote many extra hours to prepare the audition material, and deserve commendation for being among the top musicians in northern Illinois.
