Tyler Karle Congratulations to eighth-grader Tyler Karle who has qualified to compete in the state level competition of the National Geographic Bee!

The Illinois Bee will be held on Friday, April 6, at Illinois State University. Tyler qualified after besting 18 competitors in about 30 questions to win the school Geobee and taking an online challenge where he had to answer 70 questions in 60 minutes.
National Geographic sponsors the events and provides all the questions. The competition is open to fourth through eighth grade students.

Tyler has been working with Mr. Piechowiak to prep for the online test and will continue working with him up until state.
“It’s such a broad topic, there’s a lot to learn,” Tyler said. He estimates he will increase his study time from 30 to 60 minutes a day to two to three hours a day as the state competition gets closer.

Paper maps, books by National Geographic, and videos of past geobees are his study tools for success.

Tyler said he has been interested in geography since his parents bought him map games when he was little.
“I’m pretty good at memorizing facts, especially when it’s interesting to me,” he said.

Good luck at state!
