In the fall we begin our vision and hearing screening for students in all grades. Good eyesight and hearing are important factors affecting a child’s educational performance. Children are not always aware that they can’t hear or see well.
Vision: In vision screening, we check acuity, muscle balance, and hyperopia. Color deficiency is checked in second grade and on all new students. Vision screening is not a substitute for a complete eye examination by an eye doctor.
Hearing: In hearing screening, we check the speech frequencies as well as other frequencies. If we identify a problem, we will recheck in about 2 weeks. Parents are notified for problems and a further evaluation with your physician will be recommended.
In February District 28 sponsors a vision and hearing screening for preschool age children. Sign-up for this program is held the first week of February during kindergarten registration.
