District Strengths
Exceptional Programs Recognized by the State
Students have the opportunity to participate in an elementary school physical education program which has earned a Blue Ribbon Program award twice (2005–2008 and 2008–2011) from the Illinois Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation & Dance.

District 28’s band, orchestra, and choir programs have been recognized locally, regionally, and statewide with superior ratings.

Teaching Service to Students
The District’s educational program also emphasizes attention to social and emotional growth, and all students learn the value of serving others as part of a service-learning course at the junior high level.
  • Students have organized and participated in a variety of service activities in recent years by raising funds to help victims of Hurricane Katrina, collecting cans for the local food pantry, and performing holiday songs for residents of an area nursing home.
  • Our eighth graders regularly volunteer to serve at an Evanston soup kitchen, and the Student Council adopts a charity each year.
  • Westmoor School, one of our K-5 buildings, was recognized by the Character Education Partnership, a national organization, in 2001 as being one of the 10 best schools for character education.

Many Events and Opportunities Available
Our district’s sound financial health allows us to offer our students a wide range of quality experiences. The District is also fortunate to partner with a parent community that believes in the value of education and is involved in the instructional process.

The district’s PTO Council supports a variety of programs and events – ranging from the Junior Great Books Program, to the school calendar, and staff welcome lunches. PTOs at each of district’s four schools organize cultural arts activities and other events, and a Music Parents Club.
